Our office works with children and adolescents only. We do no adult treatment. This specialization in pediatric and adolescent care at the Western Springs office began in 2016 when Dr. Runge received staff privileges at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago. On Thursdays, he is a member of the team that provides reconstructive pediatric plastic surgery services to children with Cleft Lip and Palate as well as other facial differences. For more information, see Craniofacial Care.
Treatment of the growing patient is where the art of Orthodontics meets the science of the child’s growth. Since the dynamics of growth in adolescence demands such careful attention, Dr. Runge routinely applies current growth studies to deliver the most effective results for your child.
Most cases are treated in one phase of braces for 18 months at the time of the growth spurt. This is roughly between the ages of 9-11 for girls and 13-15 for boys. Two-phase treatment is done on occasion when the child presents with specific bite problems at a pre-adolescent age.
